The patterns of the 1970s are repeating themselves almost exactly. It's creepy how well they fit. August 1971, Nixon closes the gold window, or more accurately relegates the gold window to the private gold market, which back then was only jewelry. Americans couldn't legally buy gold coins. That's how insane it was.
